The new Call of Duty League, to debut in 2020 has this week been confirmed and details including official name, number of teams, logo and the prize-pool were announced by Activision. The new franchised competition will replace the current iteration of the Call of Duty World League and will feature a total of 12 teams located in cities across the world as well as a $6,000,000 USD prize-pool.

Earlier this week Activision confirmed the launch of the new Call of Duty League, debuting in 2020, that will feature a total of 12 franchised teams as well as a $6 million USD prize-pool. This will be the “next chapter” for the Call of Duty League, details being announced and confirmed on its website on Wednesday.

The twelve participating teams will be franchised and based in certain cities across the globe, in a similar franchise-based format to the one currently used in the Overwatch League. The 12 selected franchise spots will be based in the following cities: New York, London, Paris, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Florida, Minnesota, Seattle, Toronto, and two franchises in Los Angeles.

These 12 franchises will compete in 5v5 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare matches exclusively taking place on PlayStation 4. Teams will compete in city-based matches, the inaugural season featuring a prize-pool totalling “over $6 million”, in comparison the Call of Duty World League’s total prize-pool in 2019 was $6 million.

The branding for each CDL franchise has not yet been confirmed. CoD fans can stay up-to-date with the 2020 CDL on the league’s official website.

Among the league home-bases disclosed on Wednesday are a pair of Los Angeles teams as well as clubs in Toronto, Paris and London. The Call of Duty League will kick off in 2020, but no formal schedule has yet been released. The official logo was also released by Activision, with promises of more updates to come in the very near future.
