Tournament organiser ESL have confirmed the ESL MSP Championship debut for MOBA title Arena of Valor. The newest AoV event will be sponsored by automotive company Mercedes-Benz and Malaysian mobile service Yoodo and ESL also confirmed the event will be supported by digital entertainment platform Garena and take place between August and September.

The 2019 ESL MSP Championship will feature 8 teams from Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines. There will be 2 teams invited to the event, and the remaining 6 will be required to qualify for the event during open qualifiers. ESL announced the 2 invited teams to be the finalists of last season’s Valor Cup: Malaysia team M8HEXA and Philippines side Liyab Esports.

The teams will fight it out for their share of the $10,000 prize pool but the winner will also get the chance to represent MSP at the Arena of Valor International Championship (AIC) later in the year.

When asked to comment on this latest announcement from ESL, Senior Vice President Nick Vanzetti had this to say: “We have brought our National Championship product into Southeast Asia last year and we are excited to expand the program into more opportunity to host the ESL MSP Championship as part of their ecosystem and we will continue to align our goals in shaping a sustainable ecosystem for Arena of Valor in the MSP region.”

The event will be a double-elimination format – the top 2 teams qualifying from their groups for the playoff stage. The playoffs will then be played over 2 days, Bo5 until the Bo7 Grand Finale. Arena of Valor fans will be delighted with this flattering announcement, Arena of Valor gaining the support of such a big name in Esports.
