The StarSeries & i-League CS:GO Season 8 saw sixteen of the best CounterStrike: Global Offensive teams out there fight it out for the $250,000 USD top prize. The event which took place in Belek, Turkey was watched by thousands of CS:GO fans, teams such as AVANGAR and Fnatic coming in as favourites. However, it was ESL One New York victors Evil Geniuses who finally took the gold, beating Fnatic in the grand final 2 – 0.

The StarSeries & i-League CS:GO Season 8 playoffs kicked off on Friday with eight teams making it through the group stages. Renegades won group A, with Fnatic, Team Vitality finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively. RNG and Fnatic made it straight into the semifinals, while TV went straight into the playoff losers’ round 1 along with 4th placed MIBR. It was G2 Esports who won group B, and EG and Ninjas in Pyjamas finished runners up. FURIA and NiP both advanced into the losers’ round 1 to make up the final playoff picture.

EG were able to beat group A winners RNG convincingly 2 – 0 in their semifinal, sending EG straight into the winners finals. Fnatic were able to upset group B winners G2 Esports with a 2 – 1 scoreline which sent them into the winners’ final also. EG were able to defeat Fnatic 2 – 1 to ensure their spot in the Grand Final. Who would be their opposition?

FURIA knocked out Team Vitality in the losers’ round 1, MIBR defeating NiP in the same round. FURIA were matched up with G2 while MIBR were to take on RNG. FURIA beat G2 2 – 0, and RNG won their game 2 – 1 in the round 2 games. FURIA were able to take down RNG in the losers’ round 3 winning 2 – 0 and setting up a tough match-up against Fnatic in the losers’ finals.

Fnatic took down FURIA in a closely fought 2 -1 game. This set up a rematch vs EG who won the first match-up 2 – 1 – EG made it two games in a row, defeating Fnatic again, with a 2 – 0 scoreline, their second win in 2019 giving them the top-prize of $250,000 USD and the title of StarSeries & i-League Season 8 champions.
